Chapter 5: How to Receive a Miracle

Written by: Apostle Delmar

Three-panel cinematic biblical comic. Title bar: HOW TO RECEIVE A MIRACLE. 1. THE POSTURE: a believer takes the posture of faith, eyes lifted, hands open and upward to receive. 2. THE PROCLAMATION: faith declarations coming from their mouth as bright holy fire. 3. THE RECEIVING: holy fire descends, affliction evaporates, they rise healed. Footer bar: POSTURE. PROCLAIM. RECEIVE.

I have laid hands on thousands of people. Cancers healed. Autism cured. Tumors dissolved. The dead raised.

But here is what I need you to understand: I did not heal anybody.

Jesus healed them. The power of God healed them. And their faith received that power. I am the vessel. God is the source.

Now let me tell you something that might surprise you. Not everybody who comes to my altar gets healed. I have watched people walk away the same way they came. And it was not because God was unwilling, and not because the power was not present, and not because I did not pray hard enough. It was because they did not receive.

Everything in this chapter turns on that one word. This is not how to beg God, and not how to talk Him into it. This is how to receive what He has already done.

Receiving Is Not Working. It Is Trusting.

Here is where most believers go wrong: He did not ask you to change. He asked you to believe. He did not ask you to get it right, because Jesus got it right. You do not earn a miracle. You receive one.

The striving, the trying harder, the working up of enough spiritual effort, that is you carrying a weight Jesus already carried. And there is a simple way to tell whether you are striving or receiving. How do you know when you are toiling instead of trusting? It hurts. You were not designed to carry that weight.

So this whole chapter is a posture, not a program. This is the receiving mode. Get your posture ready to receive. And hear this, because it sets the ceiling on everything below: you will receive at the level that you believe. Not at the level you strain. At the level you trust.

That is the obedience underneath the miracle. The one thing God asks of you is to stop working the outcome and trust the One who already purchased it. The keys that follow are not techniques that pressure God. They are the shape of a surrendered, trusting heart.

The First Key: Go Where the Fire Is

Your faith is what receives. Without it, nothing happens. But most people need hands laid on them by someone walking in anointed authority to receive their breakthrough.

I am not saying God cannot heal you in your living room. He is God. But here is the pattern I have seen over decades: people who position themselves where the anointing is flowing are the ones who receive. There is a difference between the Holy Spirit IN you and the Holy Spirit UPON someone for ministry. When God calls someone to carry healing, the Spirit comes UPON them, and that fire is not a show. All things are transferred by fire, because God is a fire. When I say fire, I am not trying to be cute. What I am loosing on you is God Himself.

"And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul." (Acts 19:11)

By the hands of Paul. The power flowed through contact, through the laying on of hands.

James and the Tumor

A man named James came to us from MD Anderson Cancer Center. Stage 4 kidney cancer, a tumor the size of a small melon removed with his whole kidney, then sent home to die. One of our elders told him: do not just go home and die, go where the man of God can lay hands on you. James was in pain, and the drive to Liberty County was hard, but he pressed through to our Wednesday "Extra Oil" service. I laid hands on him and the power of God laid him out on the floor. When his doctors in San Antonio scanned him again, they could not find a single trace of cancer. They called it a medical mystery. I call it Jesus. James did not stay home. He positioned himself where the fire was, and he received.

The Second Key: Know It's Already Yours

God is not deciding whether to heal you. He decided at Calvary.

"By whose stripes ye were healed." (1 Peter 2:24)

Notice the tense. Not shall be healed someday. Were healed. Past tense, finished work. So stop trying to get God to do what He has already done. As Kenneth Hagin put it, stop trying to get healed and accept that you were healed two thousand years ago.

Most Christians believe God is able. Fewer believe He is willing, for them, today. But if it was God's will for Jesus to bear your sickness on the cross, and Isaiah 53 says it was, then it is His will for you to be free of it now. This is where the "believe, do not earn" posture becomes concrete: you are not qualifying for a miracle by your performance. You are receiving an inheritance already signed in blood.

The Third Key: Receive It, Believe, Speak, Act

You have positioned yourself. You know it is yours. Now you actually receive it, and it happens three ways.

Believe you receive when you pray. "When ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24). Not after the symptoms leave. When you pray. There may be a gap between having it in your heart and seeing it with your eyes, and faith does not waver in that gap.

Speak the Word. What you say after you pray matters as much as the prayer. You can receive at the altar and then talk yourself out of it at the door. A man will bless himself in the land by saying so, so you have to keep saying what God says, not what the enemy says, not what your life looked like. After you pray, your confession is simple: it is mine, I have it now, by His stripes I was healed. See The Power of Declaration, and hold it to the discipline taught there: declare the promise God gave and the next step, not an outcome or a date He never showed you.

My Mother's Stroke

My mother had a double brain bleed, both sides. The doctor told me no one survives this, prepare yourself. I paused, because I knew my first words carried weight, and then I said, "My mother will not die. She will live and declare the goodness of the Lord." The doctor pointed to the scans. I said, truth always trumps facts. My mother lived another twelve years.

Act on what you believe. "Faith, if it hath not works, is dead" (James 2:17). Blind Bartimaeus threw off his beggar's garment before he could see, because he was not going to need it anymore. At some point you act like what you received is real.

The Fourth Key: Forgive

Some things block a miracle, and the biggest is unforgiveness. "When ye stand praying, forgive" (Mark 11:25). Before you even ask, clear it. I have watched people come with genuine faith and genuine need and walk away empty, and when I ask the Holy Spirit why, He often shows me bitterness they are still holding. That bitterness clogs the pipe and the power cannot flow. Do a heart check. Is there anyone you are refusing to release? Let them go, then come and receive.

The Fifth Key: Yield and Persist

Sometimes there is a gap between receiving in your spirit and seeing it in the natural. This is not doubt. It is how it often works. Some are healed the same hour, and some hold their confession while nothing visibly changes for a while.

Here is the posture for that gap, and it is pure surrender, not gritted teeth. When I press in for someone, I hear the Lord say, submit some more, submit some more, and I will not withhold wisdom or any good thing. That is the secret of persisting. You do not white-knuckle the miracle into existence. You yield deeper. You keep thanking Him, keep your confession, and keep submitting, and you do not throw away your confidence.

"Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience." (Hebrews 10:35-36)

The Sixth Key: Keep Your Miracle

It is not enough to receive it. You keep it with the same faith that received it. I have seen people healed who later lost the healing, not because God took it back, but because they stopped doing what got it.

Pastor Mike's Knee

My friend Pastor Mike had a blown-out knee, healed completely when hands were laid on him. For four years it was perfect. He was beating the running records of his own youth in his sixties. Then the pain returned. He called me devastated. What happened was not something he did. It was something he stopped doing: he had quit maintaining his declarations over that knee. When I hurt my own arm, I asked God how the door opened, and He said, "It is not what you did, it is what you did not do this morning." I had skipped some of my declarations. So keep declaring over what God restored, stay connected to the fire, do not return to the old patterns that opened the door, and guard your mouth.

The Six Keys

  1. Go where the fire is. Position yourself under anointed ministry.
  2. Know it's already yours. Stop begging. Jesus paid for it, and He is willing.
  3. Receive it: believe, speak, act. Believe when you pray, confess it, act on it.
  4. Forgive. Clear the channel.
  5. Yield and persist. Submit deeper, hold your confession, do not cast away your confidence.
  6. Keep your miracle. Maintain your declarations, stay connected, guard your mouth.

Run your eye down that list and see what it actually is. Not six techniques for pressuring God. Six shapes of a heart that has stopped striving and started trusting. God is not the obstacle to your miracle. The only obstacle is a heart still trying to earn what has already been given. So stop earning. Receive.

Your miracle was purchased at Calvary and it is already yours. You do not work it out of God's hands. You receive it into your own, at the level that you believe.
